Who is de Lacy Cricket? The name - 'de Lacy Cricket'
Clare played cricket from the age of 14 and was handy with the bat and particularly good at wicket keeping. She met the former Australian Cricketer, Ian Callen, at this time. Ian owned the local sports store and he asked an English team mate working in his shop to train Clare in the finer art of wicket keeping. Many years later Ian put the call out across Australia to see if there was interest in reinvigorating the grand tradition of cricket bat making in Australia. A 'pod shaver' himself Ian wanted to train people so that they could provide a service to their local cricketing community. Clare took up the challenge and was the first female trained by Ian in March 2015. "It was a fantastic experience and the fact that I can provide local support to cricket clubs where I live and produce bats that are beautifully crafted and will give someone great pleasure is a wonderful thing to be able to do!" Now finally back playing cricket, Clare is enjoying sharing her love of cricket and playing with some inspiring women and girls. There might be a bat or two being used around the club and a few turning up around Gippsland. Watch this space! |
